Welcome

In the name of the Scientific and Organizing Committees we would like to thank all Guests, Delegates and Speakers for the participation in the II International Congress of Public Health.

Thank you for your active contribution and your interest in matters of public health.

We hope that the time spent during the Congress will be used effectively for promoting and improving public health in Poland.

In addition, we believe to meet you again at the III International Congress of Public Health taking place in 2010.

The Organizers

The II International Congress of Public Health, under the patronage of the Minsitry of Health and  the Chief Sanitary Inspection, took place in Warsaw on June 24-25, 2009. The main topic of the Congress was the state's policy in terms of public health and the need to promote health and prevention in an effective way.

The Congress was attended by many distinguished guests: prof. Hubert Hrabcik, MD, PhD – Director, General of Public Health-Austria, dr Francoise Weber, Md, PhD – Executive Director Surveillance (InVS), France, Zuzsanna Jakab – first Director of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), dr Dana Juraskowa, PhD - Minister of Health of the Czech Republic, Czech Republic, Rima Vaitkiene, PhD – Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Lithuania. The discussion was led by dr Andrzej Ryś, MD, PhD – Director of the Unit Public Health at the European Commission’s DG SANCO (Directorate General Health and Consumer Protection).

There were also present: dr Beata Małecka-Libera, MD, PhD, MP - Vice Chairman of the Parliamentary Health Council, dr Aleksander Sopliński, MD, PhD - Chairman of the permanent Parliamentary Health Subcommittee, Jarosław Katulski, MP and Maciej Orzechowski, MP - the Parliamentary Health Council, senator Władysław Sidorowicz - Chairman of the Health Committee of the Senate of the Republic of Poland, senator Stanisław Kogut, dr Andrzej Wojtyła, MD, PhD - Chief Sanitary Inspector, dr Przemysław Biliński, MD, PhD - Deputy Chief Sanitary Inspector, dr Jan Orgelbrand, MD, PhD – Deputy Chief Sanitary Inspector, prof. Mirosław Jan Wysocki, MD, PhD - Representative of Director of National Institute of Public Health - PZH, prof. Leszek Wdowiak, MD, PhD - National Consultant in Public Health, dr Tomasz Zdrojewski, MD, PhD - Adviser to the President of the Republic of Poland, Secretary of the Council of the POLKARD Program, and many others Polish experts in the field of public health.

The first day of Congress was dedicated to international matters, most of all to the meaning of public health in the European Union. During the second day many important matters of public health in Poland were discussed: health status of the Polish population, local authorities' role in public health, public health in era of globalization, career opportunities for graduates in public health. There were also panel sessions during the Congress, which were attended by a large group of students.
